Dr. Eric Luis, MD, PhD, MMed. Orth, M. OrthSurg, Sp.Oth&Tr, MAM. OrthSurg, CTCM, MRCS, FMAM, Deputy Chief Physician, Associate Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Eric Luis obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Edinburgh, UK (1994), 

Master of Public Health from Harvard University (1998), Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery from the National University of Singapore (2003), Master of Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of Malaya (2008), Specialist Board Certification from Universiti Indonesia (2010) in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, and Doctor of Philosophy in Medical 3DPrinting from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2019). He is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2002), Fellow of the Macau Academy of Medicine in Orthopaedics (2025), Member of the American Society for Regenerative Medicine (2026), and Clinical Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Sports Medicine  (North Sydney, Australia).

As an orthopaedic specialist, Dr Eric Luis has expertise in joint reconstruction and sports medicine. His clinical practice covers orthopaedic trauma, joint regeneration and repair, joint replacement, degenerative joint disease and sportsrelated injuries. He advocates the philosophy of “no surgery unless necessary”, and administers plateletrich plasma (PRP) injection therapy in alignment with international and domestic expert consensus. This treatment addresses musculoskeletal conditions including osteoarthritis, cartilage wear, tendon, ligament and meniscal injuries caused by sports trauma, etc., with a focus on joint preservation and repair of earlytomoderate articular cartilage degeneration. Over the past 20 years, he has performed more than 10,000 successful PRP injection cases for patients across age groups. This autologous biological therapy facilitates tissue regeneration, reduces inflammation and accelerates functional recovery. Integrating both Chinese and Western medical principles, he also possesses distinctive clinical experiences in managing frozen shoulder, lumbar intervertebral disc herniation and other related disorders.

Prior to joining Raffles Hospital Beijing, Dr Luis served as Deputy Chief Physician at the Centre for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Beijing, specialising in minimallyinvasive orthopaedic procedures and autologous PRP biological therapy. Earlier in his career, he worked as a resident physician at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Newcastle General Hospital in the United Kingdom and completed postdoctoral research at Yale University School of Medicine, USA (19961997). From 1998 onwards, he practised as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Alexandra Hospital and National University Hospital in Singapore, as well as University of Malaya Medical Centre, alongside senior lecturer appointments at multiple universities. Before commencing clinical practice in Beijing, he held the position of Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Macau University of Science and Technology, where he was responsible for clinical teaching in orthopaedics and general surgery, anatomy and clinical skills assessment.

Dr Eric Luis’s academic research focuses on medical 3Dprinting (silicone meniscus, human bone tissue printing), biomechanics and regenerative medicine. He has led multiple R&D projects for orthopaedic implants and surgical instruments, and holds more than ten domestic and international patents, including disposable arthroscopes, AI-assisted robotic Human Bone 3D printers, cellencapsulation systems.
