Elena Chen graduated from New York University with a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness. She studied at Ohio State University and then at Trine University, where she earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and was received "President's List" honor and awarded a scholarship for her academic excellence. During her practice in New York State, she worked at Hamilton-Madison House (outpatient clinic), SCO Family of Services and PCS consultation Services. Her main job was to provide individual psychotherapy to adults and adolescents with developmental disabilities and mental health issues. After returning to China, she worked in the Stress and Psychological Counseling research group in Peking University, during which she participated in clinical research and analysis on the upbringing of children with autism and post-partum depression. She then worked at the LIH-Olivia’s Place and Beijing Zhaode Hospital, providing individual psychotherapy to teenagers and adults with developmental disabilities and mental illnesses, as well as high-intensity psychotherapy to psychiatric inpatients.
