Dr. Dong is also a tutor of postgraduate students.

Dr. Dong specializes in the diagnosis and laparoscopic surgeries of gastrointestinal tumors and abdominal wall hernia repair. He has presided over and completed two projects: one for the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the other for the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission. He has also been a prominent participant in two National Natural Science Foundation projects in China. In addition, Dr. Dong has published more than ten SCI papers and has been an associate editor of the book "Three-step radical gastric cancer resection”.

In 2016, Dr. Dong was awarded the first prize in the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Award (as the third completer) and the first prize in the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education (as the third completer).

Dr. Dong has been working at Xinhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine as the chief physician of general surgery. 

He joined Raffles Hospital Shanghai in 2023. Dr. Dong is a member of several medical associations, including the General Surgery Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association, the Gastroenterology Group of the General Surgery Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association, the MDT Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Gastric Cancer Group of the Oncology Society of the Chinese Medical Association, the Gastric Cancer Special Committee of the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association, and the Perioperative Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine. He also serves as a reviewer for the Chinese Journal of Experimental Surgery.
