Dr Liu received her medical degree from School of Medicine, Fu Dan University in 1985. Received a Master's degree in Internal Medicine from Tongji University School of Medicine in 2008 and then obtained her doctor degree from Tongji University Medical Collage in 2011.

Professor Liu has practiced as an internist for 38 years and also previously engaged in research work on diseases of the digestive system in HuaShan Hospitall and Dong Fang Hospital.  She was an associate professor of Internal Medicine at Huashan Hospital in 1997. In 1998, she was appointed on the role at Dong Fang Hospital as the administrative director of the Department of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. She has been serving as a Director and Doctor of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterologist in Dong Fang Hospital since 2003.  She joined Raffles Hospital Shanghai as the Consultant Physician of Gastroenterology since 2023. As a professor and doctoral supervisor of School of Medicine, Tongji University. Professor Liu has also published more than 70 papers in core journals and SCI journals, with a highest impact factor (IF) of 8.54 and won a number of projects from the National Natural Scientist Foundation of China and the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission. Professor Liu has trained over 30 master's and doctoral students in the field of Gastroenterology.
